Providing You With Quality Lumber

                                                    Utilizing A Natural Resource

Iowa Woodworks, LLC was originally established in 1995 by five southern Iowa residents that held a common bond of wanting to utilize a natural resource that was - and still is - being wasted.

As crop fields and fence rows were being cleared, and trees were being removed for countless reasons, it was obvious an enormous waste was taking place.

Iowa Woodworks, LLC was formed and began advertising in local publications to purchase logs from the local area.  A sawyer was hired to saw the logs into lumber, and within the first year, Iowa Woodworks, LLC  managed to aquire approximately 30,000 board feet of lumber. We now have a continual stock of various and numerous species.

Kiln-Drying With Solar Power

We not only make use of one natural resource, we also utilize solar power for our kiln. This enables us to bring the moisture content in the wood down to approximately six to eight percent.

After the logs are milled into dimensional lumber, they are stacked on pallets with stickers in between each layer of lumber to allow air to pass through.  Once they have air-dried to a moisture content of 10 to 12 percent, they are placed in the kiln for approximately six to eight weeks (dependent upon conditions) to dry.

The moisture content is then checked at regular intervals.  Once it has reached an acceptable level, the pallets of lumber are removed from the kiln, the stickers are removed, the lumber is restacked in our "finished" area and is then ready for resale.
